TOYS
Another way kids can learn to be self sufficient is to take care of their own toys. Kids should know that everything has a place.

Containers should have labels that tell the kids what go in it. For younger kids, use pictures. For my boys, I use small plastic drawers for their action figures. I cut out part of the packaging to tell them where everything goes. They couldn't read but they recognize the Star Wars and Ninja Turtle packaging!

A large container without a lid can be used for dress up items. Leaving off the lid helps kids get everything in and accomidates oversized accessories. At our house, this means swords.

We generally, keep everything confined to the boy's room and the playroom. Each night, they boys have to gather everything up from the living room and get it back in it's place. Things left out belong to me and have to earned back.

But, we do keep a small basket in the living room for coloring books and markers. Each boy also have a lap desk in the living room for coloring. But, they know that the books and markers have to go back into the basket when they are done.
